Memory-Map: A New Program for your
WayPoint
Many of our customers want GPS
capabilities that extend beyond just road map
autorouting and navigation
guidance. We are pleased to announce that we have added
Memory-Map Navigator to the suite of available programs from
Mobile Crossing.
Memory-map Navigator is a program that reads and works with
raster maps. The map images can be purchased, freely downloaded,
or you can make your own from paper maps you scan in yourself.
You can visit http://www.memory-map.com
for more information on their product. We have a download for
the WayPoint
version but you will still need to purchase a license from
Memory-map. Download the version
from out web site and install it before registering
with Memory-map.
Memory-map navigator provides a WayPoint
PDA executable and a PC based product. Files can be moved
between the two platforms providing the ability to plan a
trip on the PC and then download the data to the PDA. After
returning you can upload tracklogs and locations you have
saved to analyze the data back on the PC. Location data can
include notes about that location. Please note that this
product requires the PC program to create maps for the PDA
unless you only need to use the full Memory-map created maps
on memry-map DVDs. These
maps are typically quite large and the PC can be used to trim
the map down to just what is needed. In addition the PC program
can stitch together multiple maps so that the PDA map can
have one seamless map display if desired. Any raster map can
be used but the product really shines with topo maps, marine
charts, and aerial photos.
The images below are screen shots from the
WayPoint. The title bar can be removed as shown and even the
tool bar can be removed for maximum map display.

Topo maps are supported. The images above show a
24K topo and a 250K topo from the USGS. Manmade objects
can be out of date, particulary for the 250K maps.

Marine charts can be obtained for
free and kept up to date. |

Inc.) or other user defined maps. This one was precalibrated
for GPS use with a World file. |
Both the PC side and the PDA side have similar
features including GPS support. The PC side also has full
3D imaging. If you travel off the edge of the displayed map
while using GPS the program will automatically load another
map if one is available. Either WayPoint GPS works great with
Memory-map navigator but you can only use it with one program
at a time so you will have to shut down the GPS from the WayPoint
navigation program to use it in Memory-map and vice versa.
Applications include hiking, boating, fishing,
farming, biking, 4-wheeling, RVing and many more.
The demo will let you view all maps but
will not let you print a map or use the GPS features. A time
limited demo can be obtained from memory-map if you want to
try it out before purchasing.
